Design Implementation

I worked closely with the race organisers designing a new look for the race t-shirt design of this year’s 2023 event.

The work included mocking up new designs and altering the text and date on the old design and adding the club name to the design, as well as removing the background from the sponsors logo and placing it on the back of the t-shirt. I provided 3D prototypes of how the design might look on the chosen colour of t-shirt. Once the design was finalised it had to be converted in to a suitable format for the race club to send off to their printers. The final design was printed on t-shirts and included in the race participants race pack when they finished the race.

As you can see they all look very happy with their new running t-shirt!

Background history and how I came to design the race medal and t-shirt

A design competition was launched for a new medal design for the Perivale 5 mile race in 2018. I took the opportunity to enter my design which included the race track which is always features in the last part of the 5 mile race. I know this because I have been lucky enough to participate in the race twice. This was my original design which was made into a medal

My design won the competition and for the past couple of years, I have been asked if they can use the design again. The initial design was created using three different highly unsuitable pieces of software at the time I had to be innovative, because I didn’t have access or knowledge of adobe creative suite.

I used active inspire as a teaching resource in 2018 for making IWB displays, all teachers will know which one I mean! Believe it or not… good old Microsoft Word for the text and Microsoft Powerpoint to create a circle and layer the design images together that I had created. Thankfully I now use adobe creative software for my designs and was able to redesign the medal for 2023.

3D prototypes

We were able to give a 3D mock up to the client so that they could visualise what the design might look like on the t-shirts. This helped with th placement of th logo as it was placed in different places on the 3D mock up. The organisers had the final decision of where they wanted the design placed.

The medal design was made into a medal and the design was also used for the race t-shirts.

I also designed 3D merchandise, however this was not used for the event.
